Alexandre’s international career continues to flourish with concerts in Northern America (Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall; John F. Kennedy Centre Washington D.C.; Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles), and Asia (Suntory Hall, Tokyo; Symphony Hall, Osaka;Beijing Concert Hall; Shanghai Oriental Art Center; Taiwan National Performing Arts Center and Macau Concert Hall).


In Europe, he is performing extensively in Germany (Essen and Cologne Philharmonies; Alte Oper Frankfurt; Ludwigsburg Festival),France (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées; Opéra de Versailles), as well as at the Warsaw Philharmonie; Victoria Hall, Geneva; Muziekgebouwand Concertgebouw, Amsterdam; BOZAR ,Brussels; Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London; Auditorio Nacional, Madrid; Santa Cecilia, Roma; Tonhalle, Zürich; Casino, Bern; Rudolfinum, Prague and Musikverein, Vienna.
His festival appearances include the BBC Proms, Edinburgh International Festival, Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam, Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d’Anthéron, Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Ludwigsburg, Ruhr Piano Festival, Nuits de Décembre de Moscou, Rimini, Domaine Forget and Lanaudière.

Alexandre’s next two CDs will both be released during the 2017/2018 season. Firstly, a tribute to one of the greatest French singers of all times, Barbara, will be presented at the Paris Philharmonie in October 2017, followed by a Brahms CD together with cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, with whom he has formed a duo for nearly 20 years.
Among the performing highlights of next season: an European tour with the Metropolitan Orchestra and its chief-conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Ravel’s Left Hand piano concerto); a series of recitals in North America (Carnegie Hall; John F. Kennedy Center; Salle Bourgie, Montreal…) and a tour of Japan including a concert with the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra (Shostakovich piano concerto no. 2).


Further tours and concerts will take place across France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland together with NDR Radio Philharmonie, Orchestre de la Suisse-Romande, Münchener Kammerorchester, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie and Orchestra Verdi. Contemporary music has always featured prominently in Alexandre’s activities and January 2016 saw him present the world premiere of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen’s new Piano Concerto for the left hand,Left, Alone, at the Cologne Philharmonie, together with the WDR Sinfonie orchester. Subsequent performances followedwith the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the DR Symfoni Orkestret and Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest, the latter under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Seguin.

 

With classical repertoire, he has been invited to play in Northern America with both the Atlanta and Philadelphia orchestras, Toronto Symphony Orchestra; in Asia with the Malaysian Philharmonic, Taïwan National Symphony Orchestra, Japan New Philharmonic, Kansai Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra; in Germany, with München Kammerorchester, Orchester das Bayerishes Rundfunks, Orchester das Rundfunks Saarbrücken, hf-Frankfurt; in France with Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre National de Lyon, and elsewhere with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, under the direction of Lionel Bringuier, Bernard Labadie, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Georges Prêtre, Marc Minkowski, Stéphane Denève, Leo Hussain, David Zinman, Yannik Nézet-Séguin and Claus Peter-Flor.

 

Alexandre’s discography reflects his eclectic affinity to many musical styles. His recordings rangefrom Bach, Mozart and Haydn (with Les Violons du Roy) to Le Bœuf sur Le Toit: a homage to the roaring twenties.Other discsfor ERATO include Autograph, Scarlatti, Journal Intime (Chopin) and the major release of 2016: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, as well as a film, which was awarded the ECHO Klassik 2016 in the Category “Music-DVD-Production of the Year”. His latest recording features Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2, together with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Vernikov. For harmonia mundi he has recorded: Rameau, Ravel’s complete piano works (Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, Diapason d’Or de l’Année, CHOC du Monde de la Musique, Recommandé de Classica, 10 de Répertoire, Pick of the Month BBC Music Magazine, Stern des Monats Fono Forum, Meilleurdisque de l’Année de Standaard), Bach’s Italian Concertos (one of the events of the year, 2005), Couperin, Satie (Diapason d’Or de l’Année 2008), and Chopin (Complete Waltzes and the 24 Preludes).

Alexandre Tharaud is dedicatee of numerous works, including Thierry Pécou’s works:Outre-Mémoire, L’Oiseau Innumérable and Le Visage – Le Cœur, Gérard Pesson’s piano concerto in 2012 for the Festival d’Automne in Paris and three cycles for solo piano, which he commissioned: Hommages à Rameau, Hommage à Couperin and Pianosong.


In 2014, he published his first book, Piano Intime, together with journalist Nicolas Southon, which was followed inearly 2017 by a more personal narrative view on his career: Montrez-moivos mains. Alexandre Tharaud is also featured in a film directed by Swiss film maker Raphaëlle Aellig-Régnier, Le Temps Dérobé, and has completed a new edition of Maurice Ravel’s complete solo piano works for the German publisher Bärenreiter.
