Organised by Altus Arts & Culture, APF is welcoming Dutch pianist Rembrandt Frerichs’s trio project at Ankara Piano Festival on March 3rd, 2019.
Rembrandt is a pianist with a broad perspective. He is familiar with the American jazz tradition, but wants to avoid the well-trodden path. Rembrandt is inspired by European classical music and his passion for Arabic music was developed during his two-year stay in Egypt.
The now 36-year-old artist played his music in Birdland in New York. Both in 2007 and 2014 his albums were nominated for the Edison Awards. To express his vision on the new sounds that come out of the blend of World music and improvised jazz, Rembrandt performs his compositions in the format of a trio with a reason: he believes the jazz piano trio represents the essence of improvised music in the most condensed yet effective way possible.
The Rembrandt Frerichs trio truly is a working band: they come together every Monday to work on new music and collaborations with musicians that inspire them. In the recent past, they have shared their music on stage with Kayhan Kalhor from Iran, Norwegian accordeonist Frode Haltli and many classical musicians, amongst them violinist Liza Ferschtman, Remy van Kesteren on his harp and oboist Yoram Lachish.
