Hailed as the “Young Prince of Fado” and award-winning Portuguese vocalist Ricardo Ribeiro will be on stage for the first time in Ankara
‘Prince of Fado’ to woo Ankara audience!
Ricardo Ribeiro was born in Lisbon. He debuted when he was 12 at a local association.
Since he was 15 years old that he used to sing regularly in fado houses, sharing the evening with those he still considers his great masters like Fernando Maurício and Adelino dos Santos.
Ricardo Ribeiro has represented Portugal in several occasions and in 2001, invited by the French Ministry of Culture, he attended a Festival in Alu (south of France).
He also participated in a tribute album to Amália Rodrigues edited by World Connection and in 2004 released his first album “Ricardo Ribeiro” by CNM (Colecção Antologia).
He collaborated in several projects of other Portuguese musicians and in 2005, invited by Ricardo Pais also participated in “Cabelo Branco é Saudade” a show that toured in some of the most important European halls. In 2007 also starred “Fados”, a film directed by Carlos Saura.
But along with Rabih Abou Khalil he gained worldwide attention. “Em Português”, the work of the Lebanese musician and composer, brought lots of compliments to Ricardo Ribeiro’s interpretation, and was considered one of 10 albums “Top of the World” by the British magazine “Songlines”, which refers to Ricardo Ribeiro as “…the rising star of Lisbon Fado”.
2011 was an important year of Ricardo Ribeiro’s career. He took part of the campaign to elevate Fado to World Heritage, participating in the concert at Unesco headquarters in Paris. He saw his album “Porta do Coração” being considered “Top of the World” and also received Amália’s Prize to Best Male Interpreter.
